Retiring Room Accomodation Rules

AC AND NON A.C. Retiring rooms and dormitories are provided at several important stations, which can be booked on "First come first serve" basis on payment of prescribed charges. Only valid ticket holders for an Outward /Inward journey are eligible to apply for the use of retiring rooms and dormitory beds. Application is to be made to the Station Master/In -Charge of the Retiring Room/Dormitories. You should require present your journey ticket alongwith application.

AVAILABILITY OF RETIRING ROOM AND DORMITORIES

The vacancy positions are generally notified on a Notice Board otherwise it may be ascertained from the satation Manager /In-Charge of Retiring Room.

Please Note

The maximum number of days allowed for stay is 2 days only. The charges will be collected for the full day irrespective of period of stay. In case of the Retiring Room is occupied for more than one day, the charge from the subsequent day will be 25% more for each day. While vacating the room, please inform the In-Charge and hand over the keys. Do not cause any inconvenience to the other occupants of Retiring Room and dormitories. If any loss/damage to railway property is noticed during your occupation before vacating, you will be asked to compensate the loss/damage before vacating to room.  As a part of developing the passenger amenity, on line booking of Retiring Rooms at Chennai Central has been commissioned w.e.f. 02.11.2011 Indian Railway has developed a system of on line booking in association with Centre for Railway Information System duly computerizing the entire operation there by avoiding manual interference. A passenger seeking accommodation in retiring rooms can do so at the time of reserving their journey ticket itself . for eg.:- A passenger reserving tickets at Madurai or New Delhi for journey to Chennai can book retiring room for Chennai at Madurai or New Delhi itself by quoting PNR No. of the ticket to the matron of the retiring room of the respective stations. The passenger seeking accommodation at Retiring Room at various stations can do so by approaching and quoting the PNR number to the matron of Retiring Room of the station at the time of reserving the journey ticket. This facility is open to all passengers 90 days in advance as applicable in normal reservation by trains. In case, the passenger cancels the journey, the retiring room reservation can also be cancelled and refunds will be made as per extant rules on par with reservation of tickets. This system also enables the passengers to know the vacancy position of retiring roomsat various location where on line booking was already been commissioned. This facility is extended initially to 18 stations in Indian Railway including 3 stations namely Chennai Central, Madurai and Rameswaram.This will be extended to Chennai Egmore shortly.

Madurai Division of Southern Railway has enabled computerised booking of retiring rooms in Madurai and Rameswaram stations from those railway stations where such a facility has been provided.

A statement said that the booking of retiring rooms was open to passengers 120 days in advance, as applicable in the normal reservation of trains, by quoting the PNR number of the ticket and the prescribed identity card number.

The provision of the computerised booking was part of modernising passenger amenities.

The matron of the retiring rooms of select stations where the facility of computerised booking of rooms was available would help the passenger to book rooms in the railway stations connected with the network.

Passengers could book retiring rooms at Madurai and Rameswaram from Chennai Egmore, Chennai Central, New Delhi, Varanasi, Bangalore City, Mumbai CST, Kalyan, Nagpur, Thane, Shimla, Amritsar, Jammu Tawi, Jabalpur, Lucknow, Haridwar, Secunderabad, Bhopal, Kota, Ahmedabad, Mumbai Central, Bhandra Terminus, Rajkot and Vadodara.

2. For stays of more than one day the charges for subsequent days will 25% more for each day of stay. Normally retiring rooms should not be allotted for more than 2 days. For each additional member the tariff will 50% of the revised tariff rounded off to the next higher multiple of Rs.10/-

 Online bookings of Retiring Rooms or booking of Retiring Rooms through Internet is yet to be introduced. At present the Passengers have to book Retiring Rooms at these computerised locations only.
